You guys have no idea how excited I am to be writing this blog post! I have wanted to get extensions in my hair for THE LONGEST time and I FINALLY did. The only time I have ever gotten extension was when I was 17 and they were the clip-in extensions from Sally’s. My hair was too thick for them and you could always see where my hair ended and the extensions started. Fast forward 14 years and I find the MOST AMAZING hair extensions on the market. They are called Habit Hand Tied Extensions and I am in LOVE! My hair stylist, Abbie, and I used to stalk the Habit Instagram account the whole time during my appointments, so after another client and I begged her enough, she decided to go to the certification course and get certified! I told her, when she got back I wanted her to give me mermaid hair, and she definitely slayed it! Haha!
So in this blog post I am going to answer the most asked questions I have gotten from people who have seen them. If you have a question that I missed in this post, feel free to message me on Instagram or Facebook and I would be more than happy to answer anything I can. Lets get into the nitty gritty. I have gotten a TON of questions so I want to answer a few for anyone who is thinking about getting them. Extensions are just like all other beauty services, they are different for every person so I can only speak from my own experience.
Q & A
*The first question I get after everyone tells me how much hair I have is, DO THEY HURT?
– No. they do not hurt at all. The first day I had them, they felt a little weird because I’ve never had extensions before. But they definitely do not hurt. It didn’t hurt while I was getting them and they did not hurt later in the day. I only felt tightness, but no pain.
*HOW ARE THEY PUT IN YOUR HAIR?
– This is the BIG question. They are not applied individually hair by hair, and they do not tape in either. The extensions are actually sewn in your hair. First my stylist decided how many rows I was going to need, then starting one row at a time she creates a “track” for the extensions to be sewn on to. The track is made by using beads and string. Then she takes the wefts and sews them onto the track. This is what makes them different than other types of extensions. Since they are sewn in your hair on this ‘track’, it evenly distributes the weight of the extensions, preventing breakage of the hair & preventing the hair follicle from permanent damage.
*HOW MANY ROWS DO YOU HAVE?
-This is where it will vary from person to person. I have super thick hair and my hair is very dense (I think that’s the word she used lol). Basically that means not only do I have a lot of hair to begin with, but each strand of hair is also pretty thick. So we had to do 4 rows in my hair. But like I said, it will vary from person to person.
*HOW MANY PACKS OF EXTENSIONS DID YOU GET ?
– I am not sure of this answer. I honestly told her whatever she thought I needed to make it look good. Once you book a consultation with her she will be able to give you a better idea of how many packs you will need.
*WHAT COLOR ARE YOUR EXTENSIONS?
– Honestly, I am not sure of the name of the color. I let Abbie decide because I trusted her opinion more than me picking out a color I wanted haha!! She does have a sample ring that she will use during the consultation to determine which color would match best.
*HOW MANY WEFTS DO YOU HAVE?
-I am not sure exactly but I believe it is somewhere around 12. Like I said before, my hair is super thick so it took a lot of hair to blend in with my natural hair. I have 4 rows and each row has 2-3 wefts.
*HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
-You usually have to get them moved up every 6-8 weeks depending on your hair growth. My hair grows super fast so I will most likely get them moved up about ever 6-7 weeks. When you get them moved up you don’t purchase new hair, she will just move up the hair you already have.
*HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?
-This answer really depends on what your end goal is. The amount of hair you need, the color and how long it takes her to put them in are all things that play a factor in how much it will cost . They are totally worth the investment. The quality is top notch!
*ARE THEY HARD TO KEEP UP WITH?
– I don’t find them hard to keep up with. I wash them once a week so dry shampoo is something I keep well stocked at my house. Ha! When I wash them it takes me about an hour to an hour & 20 mins to shower AND blow dry. That isn’t much longer than it took me before I had extensions.
*WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU USE?
– These are some of the products that Abbie recommended I use & I am in LOVE with these!
*HOW CAN I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH ABBIE? -You can book an appointment with Abbie by calling her at D’Novo salon in Mandeville at (985) 626-0877.
