How it all began
Hey everyone! So Burt & I just celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary and we thought it would be fun to do a blog post to share our story and eight things you may not know about us!
Burt and I actually met at the end of our 8th grade year when we were just 14 yr old babies! Burt went to the local all boys high school, and I went to the local all girls high school, which were right down the street from each other. We initially met through a mutual family friend who was on the basketball team with Burt. Coming from a different city, Burt didn’t know anyone in high school until he made friends on the basketball & football team.
We both had a young crush on each other the first time we met & little did we know what that would lead to.
God has a funny way of making things work out because all of our parents became best friends so we were able to hang out every weekend before we could even drive. We started dating our freshmen year & continued dating through all of high school. We had so many ups & downs, but I am thankful for all of it because it truly helped us grow as a couple & prepare us for college.
Our freshmen year of college we went to separate schools. Burt went to play football at a division 3 school in Jackson, Ms & I went to a university that was a little closer to home.
Our sophomore year of college Burt decided he couldn’t make it through life without me, so being the amazing gf I was, I transferred colleges. Haha! 😂
While I was so sad to leave my closest friends, I’m glad Burt & I had the opportunity to attend college together because we ended up sharing so many incredible lifelong memories. Again, through all the ups & downs brought about by mature college kids, we still grew stronger as a couple.
Burt proposed to me the same year we graduated college in one of my favorite cities, Destin, fl! We were engaged for a year an a half before we were married (that’s how far in advance you had to book vendors for a New Orleans wedding).
We have always said that our wedding day was one of the best days of our lives because all the people we love & care about were in the same place at the same time. We were so blessed to celebrate our relationship and the sacrament of marriage with people who mean so much to us, and have made us who we are. It was such an amazing day that we will never forget.
8 things you may not know about us
- Burt is the financially responsible one, I am not good with numbers, (or money) AT ALL!
- I am the clean one, Burt doesn’t mind leaving things out. (Even though it feels like our house is never clean anymore with children living in it)
- Senior year of high school, Burt was the starting quarterback & I won homecoming queen. My friends nicknamed me “queenie”.
- I am obsessed with everything & anything Disney, Burt can’t stand Disney world.
- We are the perfect example of “opposites attract”
- Our first kiss was freshmen yr of high school, after one of Burt’s basketball games.
- We wrote a poem together in high school that we still update as we celebrate milestones in our relationship. It was my English homework assignment for a class I took my junior year. We kept the poem & continued adding to it over the years. One day I will share it with you all.
- We had trouble coming up with 8 interesting facts about ourselves haha! (it was fun looking back at how far our relationship has come though.)
